Design and Implementation Challenges for PLLs in UWB Radios
摘要
Ultra-wideband (UWB) radio is emerging as an important technology for ranging and radar applications in consumer, industrial, and automotive markets. This paper describes a high-performance PLL, for local oscillator generation in the range of 6.5–8 GHz, while focusing on the important aspects required for UWB radio operation. Particular attention is given to the design of the VCO and how the implementation choices allow to boost performance in the context of a highly integrated system-on-chip. Constraints from packaging and portability are also discussed.
