Understanding the Relationship Between Binge Watching, Coping Strategies and Loneliness among Young Adults
摘要
This study investigated the links between binge-watching, coping strategies, and loneliness in young adults (18–25 years). Analyzing data from 315 participants, binge-watching correlated with loneliness, suggesting it as a coping mechanism. Among coping styles, avoidant coping correlated positively with binge-watching, while emotion-focused coping correlated negatively. Interestingly, no link was found between problem-focused coping and binge-watching. Moreover, loneliness levels differed based on coping styles, with avoidant coping linked to higher loneliness. While no significant difference in binge-watching behavior was observed across coping styles, the reasons behind binge-watching may vary depending on the coping approach. This study sheds light on binge-watching as a coping mechanism and the influence of coping styles on loneliness in young adults. Future research could explore causality and motivations behind binge-watching within different coping styles.
