Lightweight design is a central aspect of many industries. It is highly important for aerospace structures where structural weight minimization can lead to improved economic performance and a better ecological footprint, as for instance by reduced fuel consumption. In parallel to the ambition of weight minimization, the request of improved safety is ever-present. Thermomechanical load conditions are demanding and often require a certain design trade-off regarding weight to ensure safety and thereby pose a significant challenge to designers. These conditions introduce additional complexities to the structural mechanical behavior, as temperature changes can alter the effective properties of materials and lead to thermal expansion causing additional deformation and stress development. These dependencies are critical as they make the already complex structural design process even more challenging. As a result, it is essential to reduce this complexity through reasonable simplifications that ensure a safe design while still addressing the added thermal load. This can be achieved by applying conservative design practices and simplifying the analysis, while taking into account the thermal effects on the structure.

摘要
