This paper aims at analyzing the potential impact of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which were adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in September 2015. The focus is on understanding how the process of implementing the SDGs, in line with the principle of sustainable development, can enhance the effectiveness of international environmental law. To address this question, three key aspects need to be examined. Firstly, it is important to establish the legal nature of the SDGs. Secondly, their relationship with the principle of sustainable development should be explored. Finally, the paper seeks to determine whether and how the implementation of the SDGs within the framework of the 2030 Agenda can contribute to the implementation of international environmental law.
