In this study, organisational communication at technical and vocational education and training (TVET) colleges in South Africa is examined using social capital as an analytic lens. The study focuses on communication, especially communicative relationship at the colleges examined. Using a qualitative approach, the responses provided by the respondents, which revealed some communication themes, were analysed in line with social capital theory. It was found that there was low social capital in the communicative relationship between the lecturers and their superiors and other departments at the college. However, this was not the case with other categories of employees at the college. For example, the communicative relationships between managers and the few employees working in the administrative departments are very good because of the existence of high social capital in the dimension it was considered in this study. The same was true of the junior employees and their superiors, who, based on the data analysed, are both in high structural and relational social capitals. The implications of the findings for practice were stated.
