An Historical Perspective of the UK in the EU
摘要
This chapter examines the factors that impelled the UK to join the common market in 1973, the uneasy nature of UK membership and the pressure that mounted to leave the EU, the 2016 referendum and the process of departure and the treaties made between the EU and UK. The adoption of EU law by domestic courts and the constructive approach taken by courts contrasts with the unsettled political relationship. The future EU-UK relationship and the adaptation of EU law to accommodate Britain’s role outside the EU are analysed.
