This chapter reflects on the overall and combined contributions of the different chapters, reiterating the need for and the importance of a deeper theoretical understanding of communication and its role in interprofessional work. It proposes areas for future development in both interprofessional research and teaching, in light of current and anticipated developments in the landscape of health and social care. These areas include interprofessional networking; the contextual influence of space and time on interprofessional interactions, as well as the experience of time; patient participation in interprofessional communication; the influence of technology; and realities of interprofessional communication in the Global South.
