This study proposes a method for tactile presentation to the forehead, focusing on the low-frequency band with a small linear resonant actuator. We utilized the absence of the Pacinian corpuscles, responsible for sensing vibrations around 200 Hz in the forehead, and amplitude modulation to compensate for the challenge of the limited frequency range of linear resonant actuators. The amplitude modulation was achieved by around 200-Hz carrier wave around the actuator’s resonant frequency. In two experiments, we investigated the efficacy of amplitude modulation in representing low-frequency vibrations (Experiment 1) and the quality of vibration (Experiment 2) on the forehead. We found that participants could clearly feel the original low-frequency vibration on the forehead compared to other body locations.
