Pediatric postmortem evaluations in remain an important component of clinical medicine. Determining the cause of stillbirth or cause and manner of death allows for accurate counseling about potential recurrence risk and risk to other family members and may help provide closure to families [1–4]. Furthermore, it contributes to the medical field at large, allowing for accurate death statistics and advancing medical knowledge and education [2–4]. Although autopsy remains the gold standard for postmortem diagnosis, perinatal, infantile, and childhood autopsy rates have been falling worldwide for decades [5–7]. The reasons for declining autopsy rates are multifactorial and complex but include families’ concerns about potential conflicts with religious beliefs, worry about disfigurement of the body, and funeral delays [8, 9]. Furthermore, providers may find conversations regarding autopsies difficult and may be reluctant to obtain consent [10].
