The goals of routine, unenhanced postmortem CT (PMCT) technique are to provide diagnostic image quality in order to facilitate identification of the cause of death and reveal potential forensic information as well as to store that information for future retrieval [1, 2]. In contrast to clinical imaging, desired information may include more than tissue analysis, such as assessment of foreign or implanted material, or even age determination or identification of remains [1, 3]. The imaging parameters utilized for PMCT differ from those used for live children because there is no potential for harm from radiation and there is no motion artifact [1, 4, 5]. In addition, potential sources of artifact from foreign bodies or medical devices may be present, and scanning parameters must take the potential for artifact into account.
