Introduction to the Section on Problematic Use of the Internet in Childhood and Adolescence

In the four chapters included within this section, global experts from research, academic, media psychology, and clinical disciplines first discuss three specific Internet-centric areas posited to pose the most significant risks for children and adolescents: Problematic Internet Use (PIU), Gaming Disorder (GD), and Dysregulated use of Mobile/Smartphone, and then explore Treatment Considerations in Problematic Screen Use. Each chapter examines the importance of the specific digitally driven behavior/issue, its current state, potential implications, knowledge base to date of writing, improved behavior modification support suggestions, and recommendations for scientists, researchers, investigators, policymakers, educators, media technology creators/producers, treatment providers, clinicians, mental health practitioners, and the general public moving forward.
