In the development and design of technologies to support older adults, there is often a bias toward considering how technology might aid in their performance of instrumental activities of daily living. Less attention has traditionally been paid to the design of technologies to support leisure activities and recreational opportunities among older people, which can encompass hobbies, entertainment, recreation, and avenues for new learning. This chapter addresses this oversight, and the roles that extended reality (XR) can play.
