Dynamics of Futures and Options (F&O) Traders’ Experiences and Perceptions

The perception of traders on the futures and options (F&O) segment of the economy is changing in India. But the futures and options segment plays a vital role in increasing the trade volume of the market and in the economic development of India. The derivative segment is the fastest growing method of trading among the traders. The traders in the market are classified into many types: retail investors, foreign institutional investors (FIIs), domestic institutional investors (DIIs), High-Net-Worth Investors (HNWIs), government agents, bank representatives, private players, etc. This study focuses on retail investors to determine their perceptions on and experiences in futures and options trading. This study deals with the people who are in rural areas to analyze the popularity of trading among them. For this study, the data are collected from the traders by issuing questionnaires both in the form of soft and hard copies and by using a convenient sampling method. The collected data are analyzed by using various statistical tests, such as the chi-square test, t-test, and analysis of variance (ANOVA), to yield results.
