According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 15% of the world’s total population are in some form of disability. Among those, a significant portion are paralyzed, either partially or completely. Many techniques have been developed for self-mobility such as joystick control wheelchairs and voice-controlled wheelchairs (Dahmani et al. Sensors 20:3936, 2020). People with severe disabilities often have limited hand or arm mobility, making it challenging to control these wheelchairs. An iris-controlled wheelchair can be developed, and the individuals can control the wheelchair by their eye movement. The camera is mounted near the user’s head to track the eye movement using eye-tracking technology, the wheelchair motor moves in four directions (front, left, right, and stop). A precautionary step is taken to protect the user; IR sensors are introduced to identify the obstacle and stop the wheelchair from hitting it (Madhu Ganesh, Int Res J Eng Technol 6(5); Ariza and Pearce, IEEE Access 10:124894–124927, 2022; Bodapati et al., J Chengdu Univ Technol 26:1671-9727, 2021).
