Analysis of the Effect of Tapered Roll Geometry on the Parameters of the Skew Rolling Process of a Railway Axle Forging
摘要
The manufacturing of railway axles is carried out by metal forming methods. One of them is skew rolling using three tapered rollers, which is being developed at Lublin University of Technology. The universality of the forming tools and the opportunity of programming their movements make it possible to roll stepped forgings. The process is characterized by a reduction in energy and time consumption. The paper presents results from an experimental study of the process of forming railway axles. The analysis of the effect of the geometry of tapered rollers on the obtained force parameters in the process, i.e. axial and radial force and torque, was carried out. In addition, the accuracy of the geometric dimensions of the obtained forgings was verified. In summary, both types of rollers ensure the achievement of forgings that satisfy geometric requirements. For the two types of working tools, the values of force parameters during shaping are similar. A positive aspect is obtaining forgings without defects in the form of internal cracks.
