The final chapter provides a synopsis of the historical/ socio-cultural and analytical (visual-linguistic) parts of the study. It reiterates research questions posited in the opening sections of the monograph and summarises the pathways undertaken in search for answers to these questions. Following a synthesis of the structure, scope and findings of the study, chapter 9 points to broader implications of a comprehensive analysis of Middle English abbreviations carried out in the book, namely links between textual practices of medieval literati and modern multimodal, digitally enhanced communication.
