Children often experience pleasure, discovery, or disgust with food, which is at the core of their daily lives and learning from both adults and among their peers. Based on the ethnographic data produced during weekly anthropology of food workshops and through an ethnographic research conducted in a reception centre for asylum-seekers and at school, this chapter examines children’s taste experiences in different social spaces. We aim to highlight children’s discourses and experiences about food in order to better understand how taste experiences shape children’s food cultures, which are part of adults’ food culture but often partly different from adult imaginaries (Suremain and Razy 2012). How do children’s experiences favor the development of their preferences and possible disgusts? How are taste standards transmitted? How may their taste experiences be linked to the emergence and development of a sense of belonging? This chapter addresses these issues with pictures and illustrations by Naomé Desprez. Her work enhances the key points of our ethnographic data and our reflections in a form of visual and creative writing.
