We look at the concept of refugees going beyond the juridical perspective to include all migrants forced to leave their countries—migrants in-transit, asylum seekers, environmental migrants—to seek freedom and a future elsewhere. Migrants who live in emergency encampments in Rome and elsewhere deal with circumstances that put their life in a state of uncertainty: a suspension of their juridical status which forces them to indefinite period of waiting time; a suspension of geographical mobility, imposed by external circumstances which clashes against their personal expectations; a suspension of their affective and relational sphere.
