摘要

Researchers using historical data, information from sensor networks, imagery, and numerical models have characterized the pace and extent of coastal flooding and erosion.  The impacts are described in news reports, social media, and scientific literature. For a community to be resilient and “bounce back” after hazardous events such as tropical cyclones, coastal storms, and flooding, an integrated approach must be put into practice. Efforts include restoring and conserving coastal ecosystems and adopting natural and nature-based infrastructure solutions (e.g., restoration of coral reefs, mangrove forests, oyster beds, and salt marshes) to enhance community and ecosystem resilience to factors such as sea level rise.
