Engineers should expand beyond their technical skills to better understand administrative, management and team management functions in an organization. This includes understanding the difference between management and leadership, building high performance teams and a strong understanding of the human resource function. Areas such as these are often not innate knowledge areas for engineers and require the need for ongoing learning. This chapter addresses some high-level knowledge areas that should provide direction and important concepts to assist engineers in their career development efforts.
