Finance, accounting, and budgeting are not necessarily key focus areas of engineers and engineering core curriculums. Managing the financial resources under your control, however, is critical to your success. This chapter addresses the importance of managing your financial resources and introduces corporate budgeting and budget management. It is not intended to be comprehensive, but to introduce engineers to the budgeting process and key corporate financial statements that a company uses to manage its financial health. It is highly recommended that the engineer that is looking for more technical and management leadership positions enhance their knowledge in this area.
