Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs), particularly nanoparticles, have long been considered a viable alternative to antibodies in diagnostics and bioprocessing applications. Despite their numerous advantages over their natural counterparts, MIPs have not yet gained the commercial traction they perhaps deserve due to a combination of factors: some inherently linked to the very nature of these polymers, others linked to industrialization. In this chapter, we review some of the technological advancements that have enabled the commercialization of MIPs, together with an overview of the companies that currently offer these artificial binders as products. In addition, we delve into some of the most crucial industrial and commercial aspects that—in our view—are pivotal to underpin the transition of MIPs as academic research reagents towards off-the-shelf products or integrated components in diagnostic kits.
