The Many Faces of Greenwashing
摘要
This chapter looks at the pervasive communicative practice of presenting unsubstantial adjustments and initiatives of businesses and power holders as ‘green’ and aimed at tackling climate change. The danger of this custom lies in lulling the consumers into complacency and confusing them about the distinction between efficient and superficial actions in climate change action. This section analyses the many variations of greenwashing, including doubt-mongering, praise of offsetting, obfuscation, as well as terminology dilution.
