Introduction
摘要
In the last few decades, many visualization strategies have been proposed for solving problems within the disciplines of medicine and biology. Visualizations nowadays have an irreplaceable role both in biomedical research and in clinical practice. At the same time, many proposed solutions were never adopted in practice but can serve as a starting point for new ideas. Yet, it can be challenging, especially for beginner researchers to oversee this broad field. The main focus of this work is thus to provide a broader view of the field of BioMedical Visualization by answering questions regarding the overall trends of research through the years, the evolution of topics over time, and the anticipated research directions in the upcoming decade. This book has an unusually broad scope, leading us to consider a total of 3,856 publications. This chapter discusses the goals of this book and the methodology and taxonomy we employed when reviewing and manually categorizing the literature, which includes the application field, data type, tasks, stakeholders, and scale.
