Environmental, Social, Educational, and Economic Impact of Circular Economy in Ghana
摘要
This chapter will illustrate how a Circular Plastics Economy can contribute not only to environmental well-being but also to the social, educational, and economic transformation in the Global South through the example of the ASASE foundation, the story of a Social Enterprise in Ghana. Discarded plastic is recognized not as waste but rather as a valuable resource which can be transformed or repurposed to create new products. Hence, NGOs such as ASASE leverage recycling to reduce plastic pollution in our environment. Furthermore, this chapter will reference how the circular economic model can create economic and social value in the form of new financial opportunities, in particular for more marginalized groups, such as women in low-income communities. It will become clear which key factors had to be joined to create social enterprise such as ASASE and make it successful and how their business expansion model was built, the example of which can be applied to other markets and regions.
