This chapter describes the assessment model that is being developed within the project to allow for the comparison of the manyfold treatment options. First, the state of the art in science and technology is presented, regarding the life cycle assessment (LCA) of plastics and of digital twins in the chemical industry, showing the lack of comprehensive LCA for recycled plastics. The following section covers the project’s vision for a holistic assessment model to address the shortcomings of current evaluations. This leads to the implementation of the model via the use of multi-property process modeling, before an outlook into the future of the recycling industry is attempted.

摘要

This chapter describes the assessment model that is being developed within the project to allow for the comparison of the manyfold treatment options. First, the state of the art in science and technology is presented, regarding the life cycle assessment (LCA) of plastics and of digital twins in the chemical industry, showing the lack of comprehensive LCA for recycled plastics. The following section covers the project’s vision for a holistic assessment model to address the shortcomings of current evaluations. This leads to the implementation of the model via the use of multi-property process modeling, before an outlook into the future of the recycling industry is attempted.
