Minimization of Degradation and Optimization of the Printing Parameters for Enhancing Sustainability of Additive Manufacturing

Additive manufacturing (AM) or 3D printing of polymers is a class of processing techniques which attracts significant attention nowadays. It rapidly shifts from newly developed laboratory tool to an industrial process in the scope of sustainability, rapid prototyping, and fabrication of tailored parts. In this chapter, we focus on the enhancement of AM processes. For that, we propose to focus on the parts’ lifetime prolongation and application of waste feedstock plastics. For the former, we need to optimize printing parameters (Sect. 32.2) and minimize polymer material degradation (Sect. 32.3). For the latter, we showcase two case studies which focus on the application of the waste feedstock polymers for the printing applications (Sects. 32.4 and 32.5).
