In this study, we will analyze the Croatian national awakening from the nineteenth century and its search for national identity through different political unions during and after Interwar period, and the Croatian War of Independence from 1991 to 1995. Finally, we will talk about the current situation in Croatia and its European integration in the twenty-first century. We will also establish the relation between its geographical location, always important from a geopolitical point of view, and the history of Croatia full of armed conflicts in the twentieth century and the progress that is made toward reconciliation and to its aspiration to join the Community of Europe. After the war of the 1990s, the societies that emerged in the new former Yugoslav republics experienced many changes and Croatia chose the path of becoming part of the European family as a member of the European Union and NATO.
