Disaster and conflicts are phenomenons that are associated with significant and severe societal disruptions because of the sudden and negative impacts they have on the fabric of society and its infrastructures. One of the most significant impacts of conflicts and disasters is the generation of significant waste, conflict and post conflict waste have been reported as an overwhelming factor of conflicts even in societies that have adequate waste management infrastructure before disasters and conflicts. Libya has been in a steady state of conflict since the 2011 Arab spring, and that has led to a significant generation of waste, and Libya as a country has always been categorized as a country without an efficient waste management infrastructure even before the conflict. With the current conflicts and the amounts of waste generated, Libya faces significant challenges due to the lack of adequate waste management. This paper reviews the current challenges of Libya’s inadequate post conflict waste management and the causes of the inadequacies faced by the country, the study also outlines both the problems and the possible ways in which the country may achieve an adequate post conflict waste management framework.
