In present-day society, the debate of service quality is paramount. Thus, business organisations need to re-evaluate their service delivery approaches and re-focus on how services are offered. Many different service quality models have been advanced to measure quality. The focus of this paper is reviewing the models and determine how they could be used to enhance and improve service delivery in academic libraries. The paper discusses GAP model (and the Servqual tool) as the theoretical foundation for service quality research in academic libraries, concluding that despite the criticisms that SERVQUAL has received, it is still relevant offering a convenient starting point to evaluate and monitor perceived service quality. The chapter acknowledges that service quality is influenced by several variables impacting on service quality differently. An overview of different service quality models helped to develop an understanding of the various factors at play in the service arena. Despite the chapter limitations, the review of service quality is important in understanding its role for quality service provision by academic libraries in Kenya and perhaps elsewhere.

摘要
