Hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) is a heterogeneous group of diseases characterized by peripheral eosinophilia (defined as >1.5 × 109/L) and/or tissue eosinophilia and with signs of tissue damage related to the excessive eosinophils. Skin rash is present at the disease onset in up to 25% of patients. Lymphocyte variant HES (L-HES) is associated with the highest risk of skin involvement. HES may be very difficult to differentiate from secondary hypereosinophilia and patients are best managed in a multidisciplinary team.
