Geology of the Abbay Basin
摘要
The geologic evolution found in the Abbay River BasinAbbay River Basin has three temporally distinctive signatures. One points towards the formation of the old Precambrian basementPrecambrian basement, second towards the evolution of the PhanerozoicPhanerozoic sedimentary succession in the Horn of Africa and finally towards the formation of an enormous Cenozoic uplift and volcanism related to it. The units related to this history, the Precambrian basementPrecambrian basement, Palaeozoic clastics, Adigrat SandstoneAdigrat sandstone formation, Gohatsion FormationGohatsion formation, Carbonate Unit, Mugher MudstoneMugher Mudstone formation, Debre Libanos Sandstone formation and Trap volcanicsTrap volcanics, have been described. The description and distribution show that the Abbay River BasinAbbay River Basin geologyGeology is quite different from the geologyGeology of the Nile River Basin as a whole. A brief summary of the geologic resources associated with them is presented.
