This study examines the effects of Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) on user privacy in Bahrain, specifically focusing on the integration of smartphone mind-reading technology. Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, the study employs five focused group discussions with Bahraini university youth to address key questions related to students’ familiarity with mind-reading technology, their perceived level of privacy while using mobile phones, their attitudes toward human mind-reading technology, future expectations of mind-reading technology usage, and their attitudes towards the privacy paradox of this technology. The study discovered that participants demonstrated a considerable awareness of the existence of mind-reading technology through smartphones. However, it was observed that their understanding of the technical workings of this technology exhibited a decline. The study also uncovers participants’ perceptions of privacy while using their mobile phones, shedding light on their concerns and experiences, particularly with the factors of the privacy paradox model. The outcomes of this research contribute to a deeper understanding of the impacts of ASI on user privacy in the context of smartphone mind-reading technology in Bahrain. The findings offer valuable insights for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and researchers to navigate the ethical considerations and privacy concerns associated with the integration of mind-reading technology. By addressing the participants’ concerns and suggestions, this study aims to foster a balance between technological advancements and the protection of user privacy in the evolving landscape of ASI.
