This research conducts a comprehensive literature review to illuminate the latest research trajectories in the use of neuroscientific advancements in higher education, making a significant numerical contribution to this field. Firstly, previous literature review studies have focused on specific aspects of neuroeducation, such as preparing educators for neuroscience, ethical issues and the relationship between psychology and education, virtual and augmented reality technologies, neuromyths about learning and searching for changes in the neuroscientific literature; this study takes a broader view of neuroeducation, including aspects of the interaction between neuroscience and pedagogy, as well as the impact of neuroscience on learning strategies in higher education. Secondly, this study contributes to the current debate about neuroscience for educators and interdisciplinary fields by synthesizing and expanding existing knowledge in the field. In addition, a comprehensive review consisting of various bibliometric analysis tools prepared to examine the status of neuroscience research for educators and neuroeducation complements the quantitative findings with a qualitative review to expand knowledge of a deeper understanding of the implications for further research. The rest of this study is structured as follows: Sect. 2 offers a description of the purpose and main research questions; Sect. 3 offers a description of the methodology for the formation of the review; Sect. 4 discusses the results and conclusions, i.e. the theoretical basis of the research field, the trajectories of the field of neuroeducation, and promising research areas, and Sect. 5 summarizes this research.
