Mapping the Landscape and Structure of Global Research on the Internet of Things and Supply Chain Resilience: A Visualization Analysis

Over recent years, global supply chains have faced an uncertain and extremely dynamic environment, making them more vulnerable to disruptions. To cope with the challenges imposed by this environment, supply chain members have been forced to change their operating modes, and render them more resilient. Digital transformation by implementing advanced technologies has been recognized as one of the cornerstones of this change. The Internet of Things (IoT) is one such technology that enables improved supply chain visibility contributing to increased resilience. The contribution of IoT to supply chain resilience reinforcement has been discussed in numerous papers. Our study seeks to visually map research at the nexus of IoT and supply chain resilience using a bibliometric approach with the aid of VOSviewer software. The findings show that this line of research has generated considerable scholarly attention, mainly since 2020, and has global coverage. Moreover, the keyword co-occurrence visualization highlights that the literature recognizes IoT as an essential component of Industry 4.0 technologies impacting favorably supply chain resilience, and it could be integrated with other advanced technologies, mainly blockchain technology, to give more benefits. The study could help scholars researching and publishing on the investigated topic, providing them with a visualized overview of the existing literature on it.
