Psychology today largely represents knowledge generated in Western, English-speaking countries, thereby excluding other cultures and their contributions. There are numerous systemic barriers to a more inclusive global mental health movement, including inequities in funding, research, service delivery and publishing opportunities. This chapter first briefly describes inequities within the publishing system and then discusses the process of developing this handbook, which aims to put forth an alternate model that fosters greater inclusivity of diverse perspectives. The approach taken and its associated challenges are described in the chapter. Recommendations for new and emerging practices to support a more inclusive global mental health network are discussed. Reflections on opportunities for new processes and investments to shift to more inclusive publishing practices globally are provided.
