COVID-19 Treatment and Mental Health Care: Experiences in Ghana
摘要
The mental health impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is widely documented. Reports indicate that the management of the infection should also include strategies for ensuring psychosocial support. In Ghana, psychosocial support strategies were taken with the idea of task shifting to help manage the distress, fear, and anxiety of the pandemic among the populace. The aim of this chapter is to describe how the management of COVID-19 rolled out in Ghana and the psychosocial strategies employed at different phases of the pandemic in the country. It also describes the experiences and reflections of some mental health professionals in the line of duty, serving both as care providers and as trainers of psychological first aid during the pandemic. Challenges and success stories are also discussed.
