One of the methods for separation of a component from its carrier substance is based on solubility of the component in a solvent. Basic principles involved in designing batch and continuous liquid–liquid extraction and leaching operations were discussed. Methods to determine number of extraction stages in both extraction and Leaching operations were discussed. The Process design methodology was illustrated through examples using graphical as well as equation solving approaches.
