Healthcare simulation is a flourishing field. In the last two decades, the evolution of simulation-related technology, the increased awareness of patient safety and its effectiveness as a new teaching and evaluation tool led to incorporation of simulation in medical education. The simulation methodology can be easily applied to teach and assess medical students and postgraduate trainees, being part of many pediatric curricula with particular attention to pediatric emergency and critical care settings. An impressive development in technologies (ranging from low- to high-fidelity supports) with many different applications according to specific learning goals and objectives, permits the reproduction of real-life scenarios enhancing the learning process. Simulation has also the potential to give trainers at the same time a comprehensive and standardized educational experience in a safe environment, and a tailored and progressive exposure that can be adjusted according to the learner’s needs. In delivering healthcare, effective teamwork is a key driver for successful management in critical situations, and this is the reason why it is important to pay attention not only to technical skills but also to human factors and crisis resource management principles.
