A majority of children in the PICU have some degree of neurological involvement in various types and prognoses. This may range from transient delirium to status epilepticus, brain edema or severe injury including brain death among others. If untreated, many of these can result in permanent neurologic disability which may be prevented by early and specific diagnosis.
