This chapter examines and discusses both the organisational and clinical aspects of elective admissions to a paediatric critical care unit. Using two case studies, it engages the reader in considering these two aspects and considerations for optimising the care of the child for elective admission to critical care. Finally, it discusses the preparation both physically and psychologically for a child and family for a critical care unit admission.
