Assessing volleyball player performance has long been a subject of interest in literature, with a focus on skills evaluation. In particular, the evaluation of setters presents unique challenges due to their neither defensive nor offensive role, despite their central importance as playmakers. Setters influence team success in complex ways, making it difficult to isolate individual contributions. Traditional assessment methods heavily rely on attack quality, which may not accurately reflect setter performance. To address this, we propose a novel approach that considers the precise location of sets before the attack that can kill or not. By categorizing sets based on location and outcome, we aim to develop a metric that accounts for setter influence beyond offensive execution. Our methodology promises to identify top setters in the 2018 men’s Championship, offering valuable insights into this crucial yet understudied aspect of volleyball performance evaluation.

摘要
