Low-Income Earners: New Possibilities of Study from Administrative Archives
摘要
The phenomenon of the “working poor” has gained attention both in the political debate and in socio-economic research over the last years, due to its general increase. This paper proposes an analysis of the characteristics of low-income employees by exploiting the information potential of integrated administrative archives. Since the data contain information on income and employment of all household members, it is possible to analyse economic disadvantage at both individual and household level. In particular, the paper describes the relationship that exists between the probability of being a low-income employee in Italy and a set of socio-demographic variables. An analysis of the phenomenon at a low territorial level is also presented, with the aim of providing useful elements to identify particularly vulnerable areas.
