A person’s subjective sense of their quality of life (QoL) is a complex characteristic of their physical, psychological, emotional, and social functioning. There is currently a significant surge in the interest in researching patient’s QoL, both for acute and chronic illnesses. QoL assessment is widely used to characterize the severity of the pathological process, its dynamics, and the effectiveness of therapeutic measures, and the results of such an assessment are increasingly becoming a criterion for choosing therapy of hair and scalp conditions. Dermatological and hair diseases often lead to significant limitations in the emotional and social aspects and, as a result, decreasing the QoL. To assess QoL in dermatotrichology general medical scales, special dermatological scales, and dermatological scales for certain diseases are used, which are adapted for patients with hair diseases. The use of these instruments in trichological patients is critical in both clinical trials and clinical practice. Taking into account the social significance of hair, as well as the frequent discrepancy between the clinical severity of alopecia and the impact on the patient’s quality of life, this assessment should become mandatory in the diagnostic route of management of trichological patient.
