Software-Defined Vehicular Network (SDVN) plays a pivotal role in realizing the vision of Society 5.0. This emerging societal concept seeks to seamlessly integrate technology into all aspects of human life. In this context, Software-Defined Network (SDN) enhances vehicular networks by providing centralized control and dynamic resource allocation, optimizing communication between vehicles and infrastructure. Vehicular networks, empowered by SDN, become a cornerstone of digital transformation, enabling smoother traffic flow, reduced accidents, and improved urban mobility management. Society 5.0 emphasis on technological integration aligns with the potential of vehicular networks and SDN to create innovative solutions, addressing complex challenges such as environmental sustainability and enhanced safety. Together, they drive the shift towards a society where technology catalyzes social and economic progress, aligning individual and collective aspirations with an increasingly interconnected world. In this chapter, we present a comprehensive review of Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET) architecture, the SDN technology and the integration of SDN in the architecture of VANET. Also, we discuss the role of VANET in the context of Society 5.0.
