Nowadays, the adoption of 3D Printing 3DP in the industry is growing in all fields. Despite the importance of 3DP, there are concerns that education still lags behind this technology, which may inhibit its wider adoption. Accordingly, the application of 3DP in education has been the subject of recent research. However, it has been noted that most research has focused on how 3DP affects the learning process as opposed to traditional methods of learning, whereas limited research has addressed the challenges and opportunities of implementing 3DP in education. As such, this research investigates the challenges and opportunities of applying 3DP in education and sheds the light on the factors that can pave the way for incorporating 3DP into design education context. This study has a quantitative method, an online survey was conducted among four different groups (educators, undergraduates, postgraduates and designers) from 10 different countries (USA, UK, Germany, Sweden, Egypt, Oman, Iraq, Kuwait, KSA and UAE) to get both the academic and professional overview. A total of 337 responses were received. The study results emphasize the various opportunities 3DP can provide in design education as it facilitates the students' understanding of complex shapes, improves their cognition, and enhances the presentation of their work. Nevertheless, implementing 3DP in design education faces many challenges. Among the most challenging factors are the cost and the lack of awareness. To facilitate the implementation of 3DP in education, the first step must be spreading awareness about the importance of 3DP and its application at both the academic and institutional levels. This will open doors for locating sources for financial support as well as developing scientific curricula. This can only be achieved if decision-makers and educators embrace the principles of implementing 3DP in education.

Nowadays, the adoption of 3D Printing 3DP in the industry is growing in all fields. Despite the importance of 3DP, there are concerns that education still lags behind this technology, which may inhibit its wider adoption.
