The common personality disorders and their characteristics that are relevant in the discussion of the cosmetic surgery patient are listed. Emphasis and discussion is placed on Body Dysmorphic Disorder. The acronym SIMON is explained. The topic of informed consent is explored and then four specific scenarios are presented.
