We live in an age in which dependency on technological tools is inescapable. Similarly, privacy-related issues are emerging in a way that we are at the breakpoint of losing control over our data. Our society is being mothered; thanks to its benevolent mother, the world has become a state of transparency, voluntary servitude, and even docility leading to the renouncement of privacy. To understand the threats to privacy that we face nowadays, it is important to begin by defining the concept of privacy. Then, we will see how AI and manipulation techniques can be used by malicious actors to target individuals’ privacy. A special focus is given on Generative AI tools, an emerging field that has been increasing in importance in recent years, followed by a case study of real-world AI applications in different fields. Finally, we analyze what tools users can use to protect and control their own privacy.
