We present a short overview of the development of gauge forces, from Maxwell’s electromagnetic theory to the presently known Yang-Mills theory. Although this is well known, we detail here the proof of Noether’s theorem on the conservation laws for global and local gauge symmetries, often neglected in regular disciplines. We will show how Emmy Noether cleverly introduced new terms, which were later identified with the affine connections of the quantum geometry of the gauge fields.

摘要

We present a short overview of the development of gauge forces, from Maxwell’s electromagnetic theory to the presently known Yang-Mills theory. Although this is well known, we detail here the proof of Noether’s theorem on the conservation laws for global and local gauge symmetries, often neglected in regular disciplines. We will show how Emmy Noether cleverly introduced new terms, which were later identified with the affine connections of the quantum geometry of the gauge fields.
