This chapter focuses on the development of United States (U.S.) militaryMilitary leaders who will be capable of leading under conditions of complexity and uncertainty. It is incumbent upon nations to develop competent leaders who will be prepared to meet the demands of an array of diverse missions such as, traditional warfare, irregular warfare, cyberwarfare, cognitive warfare, regional conflicts, counter-terrorism,  as well as the impacts of climateClimate change, mass migration, and global pandemics on society. This chapter provides a prism for exploring a range of competencies required for future military leaders. Nations must develop leaders with a wide range of leadership and technological competencies. Today’s military Military leaders will be required to lead culturally-diverse coalition teamsTeams and also have the ability to ethically and responsibly deploy advanced artificial intelligenceArtificial intelligence technologies across the battlespace. Leader development is a 21st century strategic and operational imperative that is essential for ensuring global securityGlobal security for generations to come.
